From the cinema screen to the world of investment, Lizzie Pritzker Simmons has taken a different path from most childhood stars whose names have been associated with fame since their early years. After appearing in three films, including “Air Force One” in 1997, she stepped away from acting and turned to investment and social work, simultaneously benefiting from a family legacy belonging to one of the wealthiest families in the United States.

Simmons, known in her childhood as Lizzie Matthews, has an estimated net worth of around $2.1 billion, placing her at number 2017 on Forbes’ list of the world’s billionaires. Simmons participated in “Air Force One” as Alice Marshall, the daughter of the President of the United States, portrayed by Harrison Ford, alongside Gary Oldman, Glenn Close, and William H. Macy.

Despite her success in Hollywood as a child, Simmons did not continue in acting, retiring in 2000 after her roles in three films: “Air Force One,” “A Little Princess,” and “Blast.” After leaving the arts, she turned to studying and investing, before later entering the field of social impact investing.

Simmons hails from the wealthy Pritzker family, which founded the global Hyatt hotel chain, and she is the daughter of businessman Robert Pritzker. After her parents’ separation in 1989 and her mother Irene gaining custody, the funds allocated for Simmons and her brother Matthew were invested in ventures related to the family businesses.

Later, the siblings entered into a legal dispute with their father, one of their uncles, and several cousins, demanding $6 billion in compensation over allegations related to the management of funds and profits designated for them before they turned 18.

The dispute ended in a settlement, under which both Lizzie and her brother received $500 million, marking a major turning point in her financial life.

After the case concluded, while still a student at Columbia University, Simmons chose to step away from the limelight. She moved to Dharamshala in India, where she volunteered and learned yoga, an experience she told Forbes helped her be seen beyond her previous image associated with cinema and search engines.

Her observations of poverty in India and Tanzania also changed her perspective on investment, leading her to focus on what is known as “social impact investing,” which combines achieving financial returns with supporting projects that have environmental or social goals.

In this context, she and her husband founded the venture capital fund “Blue Haven Initiative,” which directs its investments to areas including clean energy and climate, as well as projects aimed at providing solutions to environmental problems, such as converting dried human waste into burnable fuel.

Today, Simmons lives relatively away from the spotlight she knew in her childhood, as a mother of two daughters, and she approaches her wealth from a different perspective than that of Hollywood stars. Commenting on her wealth, she said, “I did not earn this money myself, and I will not allow myself to squander it.”
