French President Emmanuel Macron accused organized groups from the far left today (Thursday) of being behind the riots that occurred last (Saturday) in his country.

Macron stated after a meeting of the Security and Defense Council at the Élysée Palace: “France will ban unorganized protests by unions in the coming days,” explaining that his country will allocate alternative routes for marches organized by organized entities, such as unions, to protect stores and businesses.

Macron revealed a new meeting of the Defense Council tomorrow (Friday) to make additional security decisions in preparation for the protests (on Saturday), indicating that investigations and prosecutions are ongoing, following the recording of thousands of detentions by the police and the imprisonment of hundreds of individuals.

The French president emphasized the necessity of dealing with the utmost firmness with those responsible for the acts of violence, indicating that organized groups from the far left seek to overthrow the French Republic, and that some of their attacks were planned, organized, and highly dangerous.

He pointed out that the government will continue dialogue with political and union forces, noting that the Prime Minister will hold a broad meeting next (Monday) that includes student organizations, teachers, unions, employers, local officials, and parliamentarians to discuss social and educational demands, particularly those of the youth.

The French authorities had decided to ban all demonstrations in Lyon, the third largest city in France (on Saturday), just before nationwide street movements were scheduled.
