Al-Qadisiyah coach Brendan Rodgers confirmed that physical and mental recovery will be a priority for his team before facing Al-Hilal on Friday, praising his players’ mentality following the victory over Al-Taawoun with a score of one goal to none, in the tenth round of the Roshan Saudi League.
In response to a question from “Okaz” about how the team is preparing for the match against Al-Hilal, given that there are only two days between the matches, Rodgers said: “We need to recover and restore the players’ energy. We will return late tonight, and we will be at the club tomorrow to start preparing for the match against Al-Hilal, focusing on physical and mental recovery after today’s win, and Friday’s match will be special for us.”
Regarding the victory over Al-Taawoun, he explained: “We achieved an excellent result in a very difficult match. We followed the opponent in their recent matches, and they played with five defenders and four midfielders, which made it difficult for us to penetrate their defense, and our final passes were not as accurate as required.”
He added: “Our goalkeeper made excellent saves, and I am proud of my team’s mentality and their determination to win. In the end, we scored a beautiful goal from a great pass by Jihad, and I believe we deserved the victory based on what we presented.”
Rodgers praised Al-Taawoun’s goalkeeper and the organization of their defense, indicating that impatience affected his players’ decisions at certain moments of the match, and said: “Al-Taawoun’s defenders closed the spaces well, and their goalkeeper excelled in saving our chances. We were sometimes too eager to reach the penalty area, and we made passing mistakes, but we managed to arrive at the right time. I have known since last season how difficult it is to face Al-Taawoun at their stadium.”
Regarding the impact of the absence of fans, he said: “I don’t think the ban on attendance affected us, but I was saddened and shocked when I learned the reason for the punishment. Saudi fans are special, and there is no acceptable justification for the behavior that caused this.”
Al-Qadisiyah’s coach touched on the impact of substitutions, confirming that the entry of Ritiqi and Musab changed the match, as they both performed at a high level, and added: “I haven’t made significant changes to the group since I arrived last season, but we need to involve substitutes and rest some players physically, so they can give their best when they participate.”
