The President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, today (Monday), called on the United Nations to support an international movement through the Security Council to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization, impose an arms embargo on it, dry up its funding sources, and hold its supporters accountable, at a time when the militia has intensified its attacks on several fronts, including the bombing of a training center in Shabwa that resulted in the death of more than 53 recruits and the injury of over 200 others.

The Yemeni news agency “Saba” reported that Al-Alimi discussed, during a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the latest developments in Yemen and the repercussions of the Houthi escalation on international peace and security.

Al-Alimi informed Guterres about the Houthi attacks using missiles and drones targeting state institutions and civilian facilities, and the expansion of assaults on cities and villages, coinciding with the continued siege of Taiz and the bombing of its residential neighborhoods, noting that thousands of casualties have occurred, including civilians and children who have been dragged into the fighting fronts.

He emphasized that the Yemeni government has dealt responsibly with initiatives and agreements aimed at ending the war, while the militia has responded to those efforts with escalation, exploiting ceasefires and political efforts to reorganize its ranks and continue its violations, including the ongoing detention of more than 70 UN staff members and the abduction of thousands of citizens.

Yemeni demands to move from condemnation to implementation

Al-Alimi stressed the necessity for the international community to move from condemnation to the full implementation of international legitimacy decisions, to end the Houthi threat, lift the siege on cities, and open safe roads and corridors for civilians and food and medical supplies. He reiterated the government’s commitment to achieving a just and sustainable peace based on international legitimacy decisions, respecting Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and ensuring the restoration of its national institutions.

For his part, Guterres strongly condemned the Houthi attacks inside Yemen and across the borders, rejected the continued detention of UN staff and public workers, and all violations of international law, affirming the international organization’s commitment to providing stronger support to the Yemeni government and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in facing the threats.

Houthi attack in Kahbob and airstrikes in Taiz

On the ground, the Southern Giants Forces announced the breaking of a wide attack launched by the Houthi terrorist militia through successive human waves in the Kahbob front, during a battle that lasted for hours and involved various weapons, with support from the Arab coalition.

The forces stated in posts on their account on the “X” platform that they inflicted significant losses on the militia in terms of lives and equipment, and the confrontations, according to their announcement, resulted in hundreds of casualties and the destruction of military equipment, before forcing the attackers to retreat.

In Taiz Governorate, the government’s warplanes launched today (Monday) four airstrikes targeting positions, weapons, and missile launch platforms belonging to the militia at Taiz Airport and its surroundings, east of the city.

The airstrikes also targeted Houthi gatherings and weapons in the Al-Dhabab area west of Taiz, while aerial strikes hit gatherings, vehicles, and weapons of the militia in the fronts of Al-Aqroud, Al-Shaqeb, and Al-Sarari, south of the governorate, as part of military operations aimed at targeting their positions and movements.
