فتحت السلطات الأسترالية تحقيقاً موسعاً في وفاة طفل يبلغ من العمر خمس سنوات داخل منزل عائلته في مدينة غرافتون بولاية نيو ساوث ويلز، بعد أن كشفت التحريات الأولية عن ممارسات مثيرة للقلق، تتعلق بتقييد الطفل وأحد أشقائه داخل أكياس نوم باستخدام شريط لاصق خلال الليل.
وبدأت الواقعة عندما تلقت فرق الطوارئ بلاغاً عن طفل فاقد للوعي، فتوجهت الشرطة وفرق الإسعاف إلى المنزل قرابة الساعة 6:40 صباحاً. وحاول المسعفون إنقاذه بإجراء الإنعاش القلبي الرئوي، إلا أن محاولاتهم لم تنجح، وأُعلنت وفاته في الموقع.
وبحسب تقارير نشرتها صحيفة «سيدني مورنينغ هيرالد»، أظهرت التحقيقات الأولية أن الطفل، الذي كان يعاني صعوبات في النمو، وشقيقاً واحداً له على الأقل، كانا يُقيّدان داخل أكياس النوم باستخدام شريط لاصق أثناء الليل.
وفي إطار التحقيق، استدعت الشرطة خبراء الأدلة الجنائية لفحص المنزل وجمع الأدلة، فيما تقرر إخضاع جثمان الطفل للتشريح لتحديد السبب الدقيق للوفاة.
وأفادت تقارير إعلامية بأن العائلة كانت تخضع لمتابعة إدارة المجتمعات والعدل الأسترالية قبل وقوع الحادثة، فيما استجوب المحققون والدي الطفل للوقوف على ظروف وفاته، من دون الإعلان حتى الآن عن توقيف أي منهما أو توجيه اتهامات رسمية.
ولكشف ملابسات الواقعة وتحديد المسؤوليات المحتملة، شكّلت السلطات فريق تحقيق خاصاً يحمل اسم «ميلونا»، بمشاركة محققين من وحدة جرائم القتل، لمواصلة جمع الأدلة والتحقق مما جرى داخل المنزل.
The Australian authorities have opened an extensive investigation into the death of a five-year-old child inside his family home in Grafton, New South Wales, after initial inquiries revealed concerning practices related to restraining the child and one of his siblings inside sleeping bags using duct tape during the night.
The incident began when emergency teams received a report about an unconscious child, prompting police and ambulance crews to head to the home around 6:40 AM. Paramedics attempted to save him by performing CPR, but their efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to reports published by the Sydney Morning Herald, initial investigations showed that the child, who had developmental difficulties, and at least one of his siblings were being restrained inside sleeping bags using duct tape at night.
As part of the investigation, police summoned forensic experts to examine the home and collect evidence, while it was decided to subject the child’s body to an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Media reports indicated that the family had been under the supervision of the Australian Department of Communities and Justice prior to the incident, while investigators questioned the child’s parents to understand the circumstances of his death, without announcing any arrests or formal charges against either of them so far.
To uncover the details of the incident and identify potential responsibilities, the authorities formed a special investigation team named “Milona,” involving detectives from the homicide unit, to continue gathering evidence and verifying what occurred inside the home.
