The European Union Ambassador to Yemen, Patrick Simonnet, warned today (Thursday) the terrorist Houthi militia about the dangers of continuing the siege of the city of Taiz, demanding its immediate end and allowing the entry of supplies of water, food, medicine, and fuel, at a time when the militia continues to prevent the arrival of domestic gas to the city, amidst worsening humanitarian suffering and casualties among civilians due to its landmines and shelling.

Simonnet emphasized, during a phone call with the governor of Taiz, the necessity of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, and enabling partners to deliver essential aid to the Yemeni people.

The ambassador confirmed, during a conversation with Yemeni Foreign Minister Afrah Al-Zouba, the European Union’s support for the Yemeni government, noting the continued support for Yemen in coordination with regional and international partners.

In a related context, the office of the Yemeni Gas Company in Taiz warned of the worsening suffering of citizens due to the Houthi militia’s prevention of domestic gas supplies from reaching the city, confirming that these practices double the living burdens and threaten the stability of daily life for residents amid the difficult economic and humanitarian conditions exacerbated by the siege.

On the ground, three civilians, including a child, were killed, and others were injured, including three women, in separate incidents due to landmines and shelling by the terrorist Houthi militia in the countryside of Taiz Governorate.

Human rights sources reported that a woman, her daughter, and two of her sisters fell victim to a landmine explosion planted by the militia in the village of Bani Amer in the Al-Shamayatain district, south of the governorate, while a 13-year-old boy and another man were killed in Houthi shelling that targeted residential homes in the village of Aad at the top of Mount Saber, in the Sabir Al-Mawadim district, south of Taiz city.
