The spokesperson for the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, revealed that direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are scheduled to take place, with American mediation, in November in the United Arab Emirates.
Peskov told reporters today, Friday, that these talks are set to occur in Abu Dhabi during the first half of November, according to what was reported by the French Press Agency.
This announcement comes amid the White House intensifying its diplomatic efforts, with its envoy Steve Witkoff conducting talks in Oslo on Tuesday and Wednesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, followed by discussions in St. Petersburg with Russian President Vladimir Putin, aimed at reviving the peace negotiations that have been stalled since the beginning of the year.
Both Ukraine and Russia expressed their readiness to resume direct negotiations with American mediation after those meetings. Moscow indicated a date close to November 10, while Kyiv called for talks to be held as soon as possible.
Russian President stated yesterday evening, Thursday, that the goal of these negotiations is to reach a “final agreement,” not just a “short pause in fighting,” as Kyiv and its allies demand.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance revealed yesterday that Washington believes Moscow and Kyiv have agreed to return to negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
He told reporters in Cincinnati, Ohio: “I believe the two countries have agreed to return to the negotiating table. The reason we have not been able to reach a peace agreement is the significant differences in their positions on some issues related to the negotiations.”
Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov confirmed that reaching a settlement for the conflict in Ukraine faces significant challenges, emphasizing that any solution to the crisis must fundamentally and sustainably address the reasons that led Moscow to launch the special military operation.
