The Ministry of Education is moving towards implementing a trial experience of converting study to remote education (synchronously) in four educational administrations: Makkah, the Eastern Province, Tabuk, and Najran, for a period not exceeding 10 days during the academic year 1448 AH, distributed across three levels.

The guide for implementing the experience, which the ministry issued for the current academic year, clarified that its objectives include verifying the technical and operational readiness of schools and educational platforms, developing teachers’ competencies in applying e-learning and remote education and its strategies, enhancing students’ learning skills and their ability to interact with learning management systems, in addition to supporting excellence in the application of e-learning through innovative activities.

The guide specified three levels for application; the first is national, which includes two unified school days during the academic year in the targeted educational administrations, the second consists of three school days determined by the education director through a decision that includes all schools within his jurisdiction, while the third level includes five school days determined by the school principal during the academic year, with notification to the education administration.

The third level is limited to schools that achieve the levels of excellence and progress in overall performance according to the school calendar, provided that the school’s level in terms of learning outcomes is not less than the starting level, granting the education director the authority to exempt any schools he deems appropriate according to educational interests.

The guide confirmed the continuation of the academic schedule during the implementation of the experience, and the students’ commitment to carrying out all educational activities and performance tasks according to the subject’s study plan.

The guide excluded the first and last week of the semester, the days of the two periods’ tests, final and international tests, as well as Thursday and Sunday, and the days preceding official holidays and extended weekends from the application of converting study to remote education.

The application procedures include the educational administrations determining the days for converting to remote education before the beginning of the semester, notifying schools and parents about it, incorporating it into the operational plans of the schools, and following up on its implementation by school administration supervisors or the education administration.

It also includes directing school staff to complete training courses related to e-learning through the National Institute for Professional Educational Development platform, announcing the conversion of study, and ensuring that students and parents are informed, in addition to submitting a report to the education administration after the implementation that includes the extent of innovative activities in e-learning.

The educational administrations are responsible for submitting periodic reports to the General Secretariat of Educational Administrations and coordinating with relevant authorities.
