It is not surprising that Al-Hilal won against Al-Ittihad, provided there were no gifts involved. What happened in the classic match raises questions about some refereeing decisions that had an impact in the final minutes of the game, specifically the decision by referee Khalid Al-Turais to end the match without adding three extra minutes, which could have seen Al-Ittihad equalize, especially given the continuous offensive pressure exerted by their players in the closing moments.

– It seems that the pressure from Al-Hilal achieved its goal, in front of a referee who appeared to be afraid of giving Al-Ittihad an additional chance to come back at any moment, amidst the offensive alertness witnessed in the final minutes, before the final whistle intervened to settle the matter and spare him further criticism from Al-Hilal. In truth, I do not blame him; as the saying goes: “He who fears, surrenders”… Excuse me, “He who fears Al-Hilal surrenders!”

– In my opinion, it was not just the refereeing decisions that contributed to Al-Hilal’s superiority; the primitive defensive mistakes made by Al-Ittihad’s defenders, primarily Pereira and Muhannad Al-Shanqeeti, also played a role in giving two “free” goals to the Al-Hilal team, which had a direct impact on Al-Ittihad’s loss, in line with the saying: “By my hand, not by Amr’s.”

– The three goals scored by Al-Hilal came amidst strange defensive errors unworthy of top stars, and without them, Al-Hilal’s task would not have been so easy, which makes Al-Ittihad a partner in its loss, even if there are observations worth noting regarding the refereeing.

– As for Al-Ittihad’s goal, it was crafted through a counterattack that player Marwan Al-Sahafi skillfully exploited when he intelligently passed the ball to his teammate Youssef En-Nesyri, who powerfully shot it into the net of goalkeeper “Bono,” announcing a beautiful goal for Al-Ittihad… But the scene that followed the goal was striking; En-Nesyri went to console his friend and fellow countryman, as if to say: “It’s okay, don’t be upset with me, it was beyond my control!”

– Honestly, I do not know how a scoring striker can control his emotions after scoring a wonderful goal, especially since his relationship with the net, as a striker, should be stronger than any other considerations on the field. It was a golden opportunity for him to celebrate his goal, please Al-Ittihad’s fans, reconcile with them, and give his teammates a morale boost and greater confidence in the possibility of coming back into the match.

– But it seems that the pangs of conscience were more present for En-Nesyri than the joy of the goal itself; instead of his happiness being a source of lifting his teammates’ spirits and igniting the fans’ enthusiasm, it was overshadowed by feelings of consolation, in a scene that I see detracted from the enjoyment of the goal and the joy of scoring it, even if it does not negate the human feelings the player showed towards his teammate.

– This loss is the first for the capable coach Vissin, who did not choose the appropriate starting lineup for the match, and his substitutions came late, not contributing as much as hoped to change the course of the game. Hossam Aouar was in his worst technical form, and Bergwijn did not deliver what was expected of him, while the full-backs Faris Abdi and Muhannad Al-Shanqeeti did not show the usual technical level.

– On the other hand, these observations do not prevent me from praising the stars of Al-Ittihad who had a strong presence in this classic match, led by Ahmed Al-Ghamdi, Dion Lopy, Marwan Al-Sahafi, and Raikovic, who delivered good performances in a tough match, despite the disparity in capabilities and the surrounding circumstances of the team.

– I will not deny Al-Hilal my congratulations on the victory, just as Al-Turais denied Al-Ittihad three precious minutes, a duration that may seem short in time calculations, but in football, it can make a difference and change the result; for in a single second, a goal can come that turns everything upside down.

– Nevertheless, let Al-Hilal fans excuse me if my congratulations come from a place of politeness, nothing more; from the perspective of comparing a club that is pumped with billions and includes shining stars who have previously played in the strongest European competitions, to another club that still echoes: “At your door, O Generous,” the discussion of parity in capabilities becomes a matter worth stopping to consider.

– This comparison does not diminish Al-Hilal’s victory, but it places Al-Ittihad’s performance in its correct context; despite the absences, the decline in the level of some of its players, and the difficult circumstances the team faced during the match, the “Tigers” managed to keep pace with Al-Hilal and participated in presenting an exciting classic match, which could have had a different ending were it not for the defensive errors and the decisions that I believe affected the course of the match.

– As for losing to Al-Hilal on their home ground and among their fans, in light of this disparity in material and technical capabilities, and then presenting a level that makes them a strong competitor to their rival, that in itself is something worthy of praise.

A final whisper:

– Al-Ittihad lost the result, but it did not lose the respect of its fans, and it proved that the difference in capabilities does not necessarily mean a difference in performance on the field. Amidst unforgivable defensive errors and refereeing decisions that deserve review, I see that the “Dean’s” loss had the taste of victory!
