The Egyptian artist Nadia El Gendy revealed the behind-the-scenes of the three most challenging acting roles in her artistic career, which caused her psychological harm and illness after finishing their filming, attributing the reason to the difficulty of embodying these characters and experiencing their states.

3 Films

El Gendy stated in media remarks on the sidelines of her honoring at the Cairo Francophone Film Festival: “The three most difficult films in my artistic career are ‘The Lost’, ‘Desire’, and ‘Mission in Tel Aviv’, and I suffered from illness after finishing their filming.”

Suffering and Psychological Struggles

She explained that the three films were centered around suffering and psychological struggles, which in turn reflected on her psychologically and physically, due to the lingering effects of the characters within her after finishing their filming. She pointed out that she underwent an immersion in psychiatric clinics to treat addiction before presenting her prominent film ‘The Lost’, clarifying that the immersion aimed primarily at observing the physiological conditions that occur to patients and linking them to her acting role in the film.

She added that the period of immersion she underwent in the psychiatric clinics affected her psychological feeling of illness for two months, emphasizing that the feeling of psychological harm and illness recurred with her in the films ‘Desire’ and ‘Mission in Tel Aviv’.

Public Questions

El Gendy noted that she faced many public questions in public places about why she chooses difficult acting roles, without including any easy or light roles in her career, stressing her pride and appreciation for all her artistic works, especially those she said belong to the national or political themes.
