The health authorities in Kenya have confirmed the second confirmed case of the Ebola virus, in a new development that comes days after announcing the first death related to the virus in the country, while emphasizing that there are currently no indications of widespread transmission within the community.

The Kenyan Ministry of Health explained that the new case was under health monitoring and preventive quarantine, as it was a direct contact of the first case, before symptoms including fever, fatigue, and joint pain appeared, leading laboratory tests to confirm the infection with the virus, and she was immediately isolated according to the approved procedures.

The new infection is linked to the first case announced last week, which belongs to a relative of the deceased who had arrived in Kenya from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, before it was later revealed that he was infected with the virus.

The registration of the second case comes at a time when health authorities continue their efforts to track contacts and enhance epidemiological surveillance measures, coinciding with the ongoing outbreak of Ebola in the Ituri province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Health authorities in the region are closely monitoring the situation, especially with reported cases linked to the outbreak in neighboring countries, prompting an increase in surveillance and readiness levels to limit any potential transmission of the virus across borders.
